Singing Lessons

Singing was and is my first love and I do my Ian Adam’s (a renowned and great singing teacher) exercises everyday! Teaching singing lessons is great fun for teacher and student and I find it massively rewarding as my students smile and gain skills,  and a lot of confidence…

I let go of an acting agent, to focus on becoming a professional singer and loved every minute of performing singing – only stopping after I was mugged on my bicycle and not able to walk for a while.

Then, when I found out I couldn’t have children, opening my mouth in such an act of joy as singing, became impossible to do without sobbing, so I decided to ‘share’ my love of this fantastic skill with others for their enjoyment, added it to my teaching repertoire and began teaching singing lessons.

I Love Teaching Singing Lessons

I studied singing with the great Ian Adam who concentrated on: breathing, using the ‘mask’ and pelvis support – ie a classical training – which basically means – ANYONE can be taught to sing – in tune – and with a bright tone – and with a supported strong sound.

Ian was a maestro. On the day he died, I went to see him in the Brompton Hospital, to thank him, for all the happy singing lessons we had shared and giving me the gift of joy.

I have loved teaching singing lessons.  It’s like handing someone a Christmas box, watching them open it and then them realising it was their gift all along – they just didn’t know how to open the box.

So, when Andy Collins’s programme co-ordinator called me, to see if I’d go live on radio talking about singing lessons,  to help Andy improve for his panto – I jumped at the chance! Yes, I said! I’ll do it!

At what time in the morning? !

And so there I was humming in my kitchen at 7am, for Andy’s breakfast show…

Andy’s Singing Lessons on Live Radio

The first session went so well he asked me back for a second: so here are both – enjoy!

Andy is a funny man, so I know you will be entertained ..

Hopefully you will hear something you can incorporate for your singing  – whether its for just in the bath, any carol concerts you attend or even a school/church/party solo!

Remember: anyone can sing – what matters is the frequency and amount of exposure you have to the tune – and practice singing to it so that your breathing and vocal muscles develop – as I explain…

Happy listening!
